Little Island Data Centre Proves Cork’s Digital Offer

26th January 2018
Cork Chamber is excited to welcome the announcement of a joint venture between JCD Group and US firm T5 Data Centers. It will progress the development of a 323,000sq ft, three-building, 32 MW data centre at a 32.5-acre former site in Little Island. Developing an unrivalled level of international data connectivity for Cork has been a key focus of the Chamber for a many years and today’s achievement validates the exceptional progress being made.

Chamber President Bill O’Connell said, “This progressive joint venture proves the value of Cork’s unique digital infrastructure. Cork is home to the lowest latency transatlantic fibre and the future fibre link to mainland Europe. Combined with our temperate climate, and the fact that Cork’s Energy hub produces 20% of Ireland’s electricity, we have the perfect environs for data centre investment.”

Conor Healy, Cork Chamber CEO said, “Today’s announcement proves Ireland’s ability to progress data centre planning efficiently and successfully. It shows that our developers are pushing the boundaries beyond traditional construction and that we have the skillsets, talent and supply chain to deliver.

This is a critical piece of infrastructure for business and will further enhance Cork’s offer for digitally focused companies. Combined with our ever growing ICT services sector, and unique expertise in augmented reality we have every reason to be excited about the future of Cork’s digital economy.”
