Kilkenny Shop has been the largest promoter of Irish design for more than 50 years, and once a year they celebrate this dedication to Irish during Kilkenny Irish Craft & Design Week, which runs from 9-15 October 2017.

This nationwide campaign aims to shine a spotlight on the very best of Irish design, honouring home-grown talent and the vast range created in Ireland, from pottery to crystal, handmade jewellery and fashion.

A number of new initiatives are taking place this year during Kilkenny Irish Craft & Design Week, including a recruitment drive for new Irish talent, an Emerging Jewellery Design competition, in-store craft demonstrations at the store in Emmet Place Cork, and free vouchers.

More than 200 Irish designers from around the country have applied to be stocked at Kilkenny Shop this year.  A shortlist of 50 will have the opportunity to showcase and pitch their work to Kilkenny Shop's CEO Marian O Gorman and the Group's buying team at Kilkenny's inaugural Open Call event in Dublin's RDS on Thursday October 12.  Almost 200 designers working in fashion, accessories, textiles, jewellery, glassware, ceramics, pottery, fragrance and wellness, applied for the opportunity.  The best designers will have their products stocked and sold at Kilkenny. Kilkenny are working closely with the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland (DCCoI), the national agency for the commercial development of Irish designers and makers, in this initiative.  For more see

Emerging Jewellery Design Showcase and Competition

Kilkenny Shop have partnered with the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland (DCCoI) Jewellery and Goldsmithing Skills & Design Course in Co. Kilkenny to find Ireland's Best Emerging Jewellery Designer.  Four finalists were chosen earlier in the year and they have all been given the opportunity to showcase their crafts in Kilkenny Shop during Kilkenny Irish Craft & Design Week.

The successful candidates are Cassie McCann, Lina Siaudvytyte, Molloe Paling and Sandra Hartwieg.  The young jewellery designers have given prominent window displays on the shop front, and they have also been given the fantastic opportunity to sell their products instore for the week alongside well known Irish jewellery designers like Orla Kiely, Chupi, Alan Ardiff, Jill Graham, and Maureen Lynch.  This is a huge honour as Kilkenny Shop is at the epicentre of creativity and Irish design.

At the end of the week, one student will be selected as the overall winner of a €1,000 bursary.   Voting is open to the public, and you can do so instore when you make a purchase or online at

Get a FREE €20 voucher when you spend €75

Commenting on this year's Kilkenny Irish Craft & Design Week, CEO of Kilkenny Group Marian O'Gorman said, "We are extremely proud to support Irish 12 months of the year, as this is what makes us unique from other retailers.  However once a year we like to shine a spotlight on the amazing talent of our homegrown Irish designers and Kilkenny Irish Craft & Design Week gives us this opportunity to do so.  From fashion designers to jewelers and craft makers, Ireland is overflowing with talent!"

"This year we committed to growing our Irish suppliers even further and are delighted to launch our inaugural Kilkenny Open Call event.  It is also important for us to support designers starting out in the industry, as they are our future, so we are delighted to run a Workshop this year along with our Emerging Jewellery Design Competition."
