Imagineer Your City, Your County
Have Your Say!
There has never been a better time to create a vision for the future. A public survey launched today is asking for your opinions on the future of this beautiful County that so many of us are proud to call home. As we emerge from an emergency situation most of us had never imagined, it is clear now that our sense of community and our collective commitment has been very powerful.
The back drop to our rich communities has changed dramatically, and by June 02nd business responding to a Chamber survey reported:
- 85% of businesses had employees working remotely
- Of these, over 12% envisioned they would retain this for the long term
- And the Community appreciation of green space, public amenities and our beautiful surrounds had never been greater
Paula Cogan, President Cork Chamber commenting, “We’re delighted to launch the Sustainable Cork Programme survey today and look forward to hearing the views from across the City and County on the future vision for Cork. The next 5, 10 and 30 years are pivotal for how we grow and develop as a region. There are many challenges, but there are also many opportunities and its important that we focus on the changes that need to be made, while also recognising the benefits that these changes can bring to our daily lives, whether living, working or studying in Cork.”
Ms. Cogan added “2020 is a year like no other. We are at a time of change. A crossroads. And as we navigate the Covid-19 pandemic, it’s crucial that we emerge stronger. As a society, the horizon holds several challenges across Climate Change, Brexit and Covid-19, and we must face these challenges head on. Through the Sustainable Cork Programme, Cork Chamber frames the recovery through the powerful lens of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Initiated in May of this year, and at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the programme is designed to uncover a vision for business and communities supported by a sustainable and resilient Cork region.”
“Launching today, the survey forms a central pillar of the Sustainable Cork Programme. We’re asking for your vision on what Cork could look like in 5 years, 10 years and 30 years. What do you want to see more of? What differentiates Cork when it comes to living and working here? What will be the biggest changes to our daily lives by 2030, and by 2050? If you were given one wish to shape Cork’s development by 2050, what would that be? We want to hear from everyone.”
Ms Cogan continues, “We all want a resilient, sustainable Cork region across the three pillars of sustainability, Economic, Social and Environmental and it is up to us all to create that vision and move in that direction with purpose. A clear vision can frame that ambition and drive that momentum.”
In concluding, Ms. Cogan added “The survey is available on corkchamber.ie until 5pm on Friday July 10th, contains eight short questions and should take no longer than five minutes to complete. We hope to hear from you.”
