Cork Chamber Welcomes Progress on Traffic in Little Island
Cork Chamber welcomes the publication of designs to alleviate traffic in Little Island by Cork County Council.
New plans show a number of interventions such as the addition of lanes that will help alleviate congestion at the Crompán roundabout and nearby junctions. The plans come before the publication of a full traffic strategy for the Island which is currently being finalised by the County Council and consultants Systra.
Speaking of the progress, Conor Healy said: “This first step is important for businesses on Little Island. During consultation with the County Council our members requested that in the short term, action is needed to ease traffic during peak times. This proposal for new traffic alleviators is welcome and it must continue apace.”
“Already Little Island is the largest commercial and industrial location in Cork. As it continues to grow from strength to strength and it is essential that additional economic activity is matched by forward planning and infrastructural investment. There are a number of different interventions which will be critical. For example, in our ongoing dialogue with Transport Infrastructure Ireland we continually emphasise the Dunkettle Interchange Upgrade as a key solution for Little Island as well as investment to improve pedestrian, cycling and public transport access to and from the area” Mr. Healy concluded.
