Bus Connects Contract Award Welcomed

Deep Support Required to Deliver on CMATS

Speaking today, Conor Healy, Chamber CEO said, “The appointment of contractors to the ‘Bus Connects’ programme for Cork is another welcome milestone in the delivery of the Cork Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy. Cork can only deliver on it’s growth projections and evolve to a more resilient and sustainable economic model if comprehensive multimodal transport options are in place. Quality of life will continue to define the competitiveness of Cork and it is clear that traffic congestion has no place in this equation. There is a real opportunity to distinguish Cork and to define our recovery in the most positive terms.
To ensure success, Government must continue to robustly support the NTA and Local Authorities in the full implementation of every aspect of CMATS, a strategy which can only work if all elements are progressed in parallel. The full delivery of CMATS must be seen as a start point, a strategy that sets a foundation on which we can build an exemplary region. The NTA needs a strong presence and overt delivery office in Cork, and the forthcoming NDP review must give utter confidence to all involved.”
